Cricket: Butcher carves up Australia
Mark Butcher steered England to a six-wicket victory in the fourth Test at Headingley with an unbeaten century as the hosts made light of work of reaching the 315-run target.
The Surrey left-hander hit a Test best 173 not out as England averted an Ashes 'greenwash' against the Aussies, who had won the first three Tests of the series.
Butcher shared in a third-wicket stand of 181 with captain Nasser Hussain (55) the pair coming together after openers Mike Atherton (8) and Marcus Trescothick (10) had departed with just 33 runs on the board.
