World Athletics: More Irish disappointment

A fruitless World Athletics Championships continued along the same vein for

the Irish overnight as Terry McHugh and Patrice Dockery took to the stage

on the best-attended night of the Championships to date, barring the

opening ceremony.

McHugh failed to qualify for tomorrow's World Championships javelin final, as the 18-times Irish Champion could only muster a distance of 75.49m from his second throw of the three.

Defending title-holder Jan Zelenzy now seems certain to pick up another

world title after setting a new Championship record of 90.76m to lead the

qualifying table.

Meanwhile, Dubliner Dockery finished seventh in an entertaining Women's

800m Wheelchair Final.

The exhibition event was won by Australian Louise Sauvage.
