Formula One: Jordan has off day in Germany

It has not been Jordan’s day at the German Grand Prix - nor has it been their weekend - as Zonta soon retired, and then Trulli spun his way down the back of the field following a tussle with the BAR of Olivier Panis on lap 13.

The two drivers were wheel to wheel as they headed towards the Jim Clark Curve, with Trulli ultimately yielding to allow the Frenchman through.

But the scrap was not over as Trulli attacked into the second chicane of the Ostkurve, but again lost out and this time lost control as he spun off the track.

A handful of cars then sped by as he waited to return to the race, but the Italian quickly made up lost ground and was back up to 13th by the end of lap 15.

It was a lap which also signalled the end of Hakkinen’s race, the reliability of the McLaren again letting the double world champion down just when it appeared as if his season was finally beginning to kick into gear following his win at the British Grand Prix a fortnight ago.
