Motorsport: Sato claims another pole

Takuma Sato and Robbie Kerr, the respective leaders of the British Formula 3 Championship Class and Scholarship Class, dominated the second qualifying

session at Donington Park.

In the Championship Class, BAR F1 test driver, Sato headed German, Andre Lotterer with Anthony Davidson and Matt Davies on the second row.

Mark Taylor, who was 13th in this morning’s first session, made a dramatic improvement - he is on the third row alongside Northern Ireland’s, Derek Hayes of Manor Motorsport.

In the Scholarship Class, Kerr took pole after six minutes and was never seriously threatened for the remainder of the 20-minute session.

Earlier, Ernani Judice and Mark Mayall were the pacesetters.

After Kerr set the fastest lap, Michael Keohane and

Judice gave chase with Mathew Gilmore down in eight

place. Justin Sherwood displaced Keohane for second

with eleven minutes remaining. Gilmore slotted into

third with five minutes left, Keohane saw fourth place

slip from his grasp as both Ernani Judice and Mark

Mayall improved on their times. The Cork driver

opined his car was handling very erratically on the

Donington Park circuit.

In the Slick 50 Formula Ford Zetec qualifier, Adam

Carroll is the highest placed Irish driver. He will

occupy the second row along with Alex Danielsson. The

early championship leader, Richard Goransson has pole

from Patrick Long.

Elsewhere, Gary Turkington (Northern Ireland) is on

the third row, Tony Rogers lines up on row twelve,

James Murphy, who crashed in free practice this

morning, is on the 14th. row ahead of fellow Irish

driver, Emmet O’Brien.
