Motorsport: Kerr extends F3 lead as Keohane returns to podium

Robbie Kerr claimed his second Formula 3 Scholarship Class victory at Brands Hatch to move into a 16-point lead - eight of the 12 rounds are now completed.

Kerr, who also set fastest lap, led the Scholarship contenders through the race that, unlike this morning’s first race, was incident free.

Michael Keohane drove a very controlled race and lap after lap edged away from Ernani Judice, who was third. Mathew Gilmore finished fourth and Robert Doornbos was fifth.

In championship terms, Kerr, who arrived at the Kent circuit a point behind Gilmore, has opened up a 16-point lead with Keohane, trailing Gilmore by 39

points.

The next round of the Green Flag British F3 Scholarship Class is in Donington Park in two weeks time.

Meanwhile, the teams begin preparation for a non-championship race at the British Grand Prix on Sunday next.

Gary Turkington was the best of the Irish in the second Formula Ford Zetec Race that was won by Robert Dalghren.

Adam Carroll was tenth, James Murphy and Emmet O’Brien were 18th and 20th respectively.

Championship, recorded his best ever finish to take

second place at Brands hatch. Considering he started

from ninth place, it was a fine achievement. The

race, the eighth round of the championship, was won by

Nick Padley. Colin Turkington, the only other Irish

representative inn the series, was fifth.

Karl Cleary, in a Metro 6R4 won both of the opening

rounds of the Irish Hillclimb/Sprint Championship at

Dungarvan.
