Formula 1: Department of Health threatens Grand Prix television

The Department of Health has threatened to ban the televising of Formula 1 racing because of the widespread use of tobacco advertising in the sport.

The Deputy Secretary General of the Department, while speaking to a Dail sub-committee on health and smoking, said that the issue is a major concern and should be addressed immediately, although he believes that a television ban would not be the pragmatic decision.

The F1 sport has been suffering from the crackdown on tobacco advertising throughout Europe in recent years.
