Athletics: Sonia to rest for remainder of year

Sonia O'Sullivan has confirmed that she will run in the Ballycotton 10K event on June 24.

She announced yesterday that, apart from the Ballycotton race, she will pull out of track competition for the remainder of the year.

The move means the Olympic 5,000m silver medallist will miss the World Athletics Championships at Edmonton, Canada.

"I found the Sydney Games very tiring mentally and physically and I'm looking forward to a good rest. I had an illness earlier this year, and training hasn't been going all that well," O'Sullivan said.
