Motorsport: Worswick wins Irish Super Prix

The Irish Super Prix at Mondello Park was won by British driver, Tony Worswick.

His ex-Jordan car took the chequered flag in a truncated race as Ireland’s Sarah Kavanagh, finished second.

It began well for the Dubliner as she outpaced Worswick into the first corner.

With her home fans watching a super dice, the race was red flagged when Noel McIntyre, third on the first race, spun off into the gravel traps.

When the race was re-started Worswick got a perfect start and settled quickly to open up a strong lead.

Kavanagh was displaced in second by the Ferrari of Klass Zwart, however, when he tried to reel in Worswick he went off the track at the rear entrance to the pits.

With the yellow flags displayed, Kavanagh darted to the pits with an exhaust difficulty.

She rejoined the race and went on to secure second.

Ireland’s only other representative, Noel McIntyre retired within a lap of the re-start.

In the other races, there were victories for Brian Hearty (Formula Vee’s); Owen Murray (Fiat Punto); Quentin Smith (Fiat Uno) and Paul Dagg (Strykers).
