Waterford’s, Mick Morrissey partnered Hamad Al Sowaidi to a fine victory in the Group N production class in the Jordan International Rally.

They held their overnight position to finish ahead of the similar Mitsubishi Evo 6 of Sheikh Abdullah Al Qassimi.

Morrissey was one of three Irish co-drivers competing on the rally, the fourth round of the Middle East Rally Championship.

Joe Downey helped Ahmed Al Sabban secure fifth and Allan Harryman and driver, Al Hajri, were seventh.

The rally was won by Mohammed Ben Sulayem (Ford Focus), he dominated the event throughout and finished with a victory margin of over six minutes.

Cork driver, Mathew Griffin, finished tenth in the third round of the Formula Renault Championship at Oulton Park.

Problems during qualifying saw him start 18th on the grid.

The race was won by Carl Breeze.
