Motorsport: The Irish abroad

Three Irish co-drivers with their respective Middle East drivers hold top ten places entering today’s final leg of the Jordan International Rally.

Qatar’s Hamad Al Sowaidi co-driven by Waterford’s Mick Morrissey, in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6, are second overall and top crew in the Group N category.

Elsewhere, Ahmed Al Sabban and Dubliner Joe Downey are sixth overall.

Ulster co-driver, Alan Harryman, co-driving for Al Hajri in yet another Group N Mitsubishi are tenth.

The rally is being led by Mohammed Ben Sulayem (Ford Focus WRC).

In Oulton Park, Cork drivers Matthew Griffin (Manor Motorsport) and Robbie Coleman (DFR Racing) will compete in tomorrow’s third round of the British Formula Renault Championship.

At Silverstone, in the Loctite Rallysprint, Irish representation includes Kenny McKinstry and Ollie O’Donovan, both driving Subarus.
