Murdoch backs Chinese Olympic bid

Granting Beijing the right to host the 2008 Summer Olympics would be a ‘‘wonderful thing,’’ News Corporation magnate Rupert Murdoch has said.

‘‘As far as 2008, I think it would be a wonderful thing if Beijing had it, for many many reasons, if only the added incentive it would get people in Beijing to clean up the environment even faster,’’ said Murdoch, whose Star TV broadcasts to parts of China.
