Ethiopian, Gete Wami beat Paula Radcliffe to the gold medal today in the World Cross Country Championship race in Ostend, Belgium.

Radcliffe tried her hardest to deny the Ethiopian as she had done 24 hours earlier.

It was a very close finish with Wami crossing the finish inches in front of Radcliffe.

Sonia O'Sullivan dropped out in the early stages of the four kilometer race.

She had been taking antibiotics earlier in the week.

Anne Keenan Buckley was the leading Irish woman, finishing just inside the top twenty.
