Dundee are hoping to reunite Argentinian legend Diego Maradona with former international team-mate Claudio Caniggia at Dens Park.

The ambitious Tayside outfit are still in talks to bring the former World Cup star to Dundee for a one-off spectacular against his former club Napoli.

Maradona was recently voted the world's greatest player with Brazilian Pele and the Dundee supporters are hoping to get the chance of a lifetime.

Dundee chiefs have stepped up their attempts after Caniggia promised to bring his close friend to the club when he arrived in October.

And the prospect of him arriving in Dundee moved a step closer with Caniggia signing a new contract until 2003 last week.

Maradona will meet representatives from the Italian Serie A outfit this week and both parties have expressed an interest in going ahead with the fixture some time after the winter break.

The original idea was to fly the controversial midfielder out to join their training camp in Dubai, but the trip has yet to be finalised.

But Dundee are desperate for their fans not to miss out on seeing the former Barcelona star and World Cup winner.

The blue half of town has been gripped by "Caniggia Mania" since his arrival and the promise of another legend coming to Dens Park is sure to wet the appetite.
