Corinthian and Mossley upset formbook in Irish Senior Cup

Two EY Hockey League sides were dumped out of the Irish Senior Cup by provincial sides as Corinthian and Mossley proved there is life outside the national league.

Corinthian edged Glenanne 4-2 on penalties despite giving up a two-goal lead in a 3-3 draw. Jonny Bruton and David Howard made it 30 goals between them this season, but a pair of corner goals from Olympian Shane O’Donoghue hauled Glens back into it prior to the shootout.

While Corinthians’ form meant that wasn’t an entirely unexpected result, Railway Union’s 4-1 loss to a Mossley side with just one win to their credit in Ulster league action this term was a huge surprise. Former international Simon Todd was a key Mossley man, netting all four goals.
