Templeogue stay unbeaten Men’s Basketball Super League
The Cork side struggled in the opening half and in the 16 th minute trailed by 20 before a late rally saw them reduce the deficit to 45-33.
In the second half Demons were always chasing the game and with American Jacob Lawson having a bad day at the office it was left to the O’Sullivan brothers, Ciaran and Adrian, to lead an onslaught in the fourth quarter that reduced the deficit to six points.
Templeogue recovered their composure coming down the stretch and with Jason Killeen finishing with a game high 27 points they remain at the summit.
Kieran Donaghy was in great form for Irish TV Tralee Warriors when they defeated DCU Saints 78-60 before a capacity attendance at the Tralee Sports Complex.
Warriors surged into a 12 point lead in the opening quarter and, inspired by Goran Pantovic, they continued to dominate and led 42-29 at the break. They stayed in control coming down the stretch and were full value for their 18-point win much to the delight of coach Mark Bernsen: “I was pleased how the players applied themselves against tough opposition and there is little doubt we will improve ,” Bernsen said.
UL Eagles put up a brave fight before succumbing to a late Killester rally before going down to a 70-66 home defeat. The Shannonsiders played exceptional defence in the first half that curbed the threat of Killester’s American Jermaine Turner as the Eagles commanded a 42-35 interval lead.
Killester can thank the second half contribution of Paddy Sullivan who finished with a game high 20 points as the Dubliners held out for a hard earned four-point win.
Griffith Swords Thunder remain serious contenders as they easily accounted for Belfast Star 92-71 at the Alsaa.
Thunder laid the foundation for their win with a stunning first half that saw Michael Goj nail four three pointers as they surged into a 16-point interval lead.
In the second half, it was a case of going through the motions for Thunder as they ran out comfortable winners, much to the delight of head coach Dave Baker.
“I was delighted with the contributions made by all my players as we are now beginning to play the type of basketball that translates into performances like this one,” Baker said.
UCD Marian are going great guns but they were given a rare fright in the opening half against Kubs when trailing 46-37.
In the second half UCD recovered their composure and with Dustin Moreira leading the scoring onslaught they managed to run out 19 point winners.
There was a big shock in the Women’s Super League when Meteors lost 68-46 at home to Portlaoise Panthers, with Nicole Sterling leading the scoring on 26 points.
Liffey Celtics got back to winning ways when defeating Killester 83-70 at Lexlip.
Killester led 46-43 in a high scoring first half but American Jazmin Boone turned on the style in the second half that secured the crucial points for the Kildare side.
