Frampton insists he isn’t done with 2016 yet after the greatest victory of his life over Leo Santa Cruz under the primetime spotlights of Brooklyn on Saturday night, the new WBA featherweight champion of the world is keen to get back in the ring before year’s end.
The Jackal earned around $500,000 from his defining night at the Barclays Center as he became the first fighter to defeat the Mexican hotshot. It was a win that ensured many greater riches are now on the way for the Belfast 29-year-old.
With IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby listening on at the post-fight press conference, Frampton insisted he was hungry for more.
“This is going to be a year that I will remember for a long time. I’d like to fight again this year,” he said, with Selby, WBC champion Gary Russell Jr and an immediate rematch with Santa Cruz all possibilities.
“Lee Selby is here and is a great fighter. He’s someone I respect very much so that fight interests me. Selby’s a big name, Santa Cruz is a big name, Gary Russell Jr is a big name. All these guys are big names — that’s what I want.
“I just want to be involved in big, memorable fights against top-class guys. Real fighters fight — and that’s what I want to do.”
