The lead changed hands in each of the first three to the stud farm, where Sexton had 15m odds for what would be his last lead. Both were right with their next, but Kingston reached Holland’s wall, but Sexton’s hit a pillar 40m hind. They both struggled in the next two, but Kingston had a big lead at de Barra’s gate. Sexton just beat that with his eighth to leave almost a bowl between them.

After two more, Kingston was just shy of the school cross and Sexton was at the middle of the hill. Sexton then delivered a beautifully weighted bowl that rolled through the cross and the score looked wide open again.
