The Wexford rider and the stallion Hector van d’Abdijhoeve had to give way to Belgian Jos Verlooy on Caracas, but it was the experience of Roger Yves Bost that won the day, the Frenchman fastest on Quod’Couer de La Loge.

Allen was last to go in the four-horse, third-round jump-off, but lowered the penultimate fence with the nine-year-old grey — owned by Noel Delahunty of Connaught Bloodstock — bucking upon landing.
