Bertram Allen adamant over spot at Rio

Bertram Allen yesterday said he believes the fact he won Ireland’s single show jumping slot in the Olympics must have a significant bearing when it comes to selecting who will actually line out in the Games.

Allen and Molly Malone V were confirmed this week — along with dressage rider Judy Reynolds (Vancouver K) — as having secured a spot for Ireland, but in show jumping’s case, it will be manager Robert Splaine and Horse Sport Ireland who decide the travelling combination.

Allen, however, is adamant that his winning the ticket to Rio de Janeiro will — not necessarily should — merit special consideration when the decision is made, most likely in the second half of June.
