The Ennis Track athlete has dominated schools’ and junior competition the last number of years, coming to national prominence last May when he carved more than two seconds off John Treacy’s 40-year-old national junior 5,000m record.

Mulcaire went on to finish an agonising fourth over that distance at the European Junior Athletics Championships in Eskilstuna, Sweden last July.
