Cardiff Bay should be hard to thwart at Curraheen Park

Cardiff Bay should take a world of beating in tonight’s second race at Curraheen Park, where the semi-finals of the Greyhound and Petworld Supersprint feature.

Despite fluffing his lines early, the selection ran very well in defeat behind Cash Spice last time out.

That came on the back off a fine effort behind Rosenallis, in which he was showing pace into the bend when short of room.

He’s clearly capable of a lot better on the clock and if he breaks on terms this time, it’ll take a fair effort to lower his colours.

Last week’s run was a joy to behold and, while drawn much wider this time, he has plenty of top-class form from middle-to-wide draws.

The second semi-final is a real cracker, from which former track record holder Quietly can emerge victorious.

Ian Reilly’s dog missed the kick last time and was baulked at the opening bend, but there was no shame in finishing second behind kennel companion Hee Haws Sheriff.

Ballymac Sexton and Ballymac Bigmike provide stern opposition, and the selection cannot afford to miss a beat early, but he has incredible speed when he finds stride. Ballymac Bigmike is just preferred to Ballymac Sexton as the danger.

Round two of the Ladbrokes Easter Cup takes place in Shelbourne Park, and the absence of Ballyhooly Henry and Rural Hawaii from the second heat leaves Jaytee Jet with a gilt-edged opportunity to bounce back to winning ways.

Second behind Gold Cup winner Slipper Fred in the opening round, he lost little in defeat. Paul Hennessy’s dog should step forward from that effort and can be expected to prove too strong for Derby finalist Peregrine Falcon.

Sidarian Vega can take the fourth heat for trainer Graham Holland.

The Champion Stakes winner was impressive in the opening round, and is drawn on the right side of Leger winner and kennel companion Skywalker Rory this time.

He should have too much early pace for that rival.
