Fr Mathews stunned by Oblate Dynamos
The victors had twice suffered heavy losses to the Cork side in the league but were full value for their sensational four-point win. Winning coach Terry Staunton said: “Nobody gave us a chance. Fr Mathews have such an experienced squad but my players love this competition and we showed incredible courage when the game hung in the balance. We had a game plan and it worked and my players never stopped believing and that’s crucial.”
Losing captain Fiona Lynch struggled to pinpoint the cause for their below par performance. We stopped doing what we do best and in the end chose silly shooting options that ultimately cost us big time. We have worked diligently all season with only one ambition and that was to reach the cup final but I think today proves that games are not won on paper.”
