UFC star Northcutt backs McGregor and has a weird bet to prove it
Northcutt is the latest star to put his faith in Conor McGregor, accepting a somewhat bizarre wager posed to him by fellow UFC middleweight Sam Alvey on Alveyâs âPound For Poundâ podcast earlier this week.
Northcutt, at just 19 years old, is one of the UFCâs rising stars and already has one impressive TKO on his resume. Despite being labelled a âpretty boy who thinks he can fightâ by UFC top gun Dana White, the youngster has taken the MMA world by storm.
When asked by co-host Jordan Killion of MMA Latest, would he be watching UFC 194 on December 12, Northcutt replied:
âYes Sir, December 12, Iâm excited to watch thatâ
Host Alvey then revealed he would be rooting for undefeated champion Jose Aldo when he and McGregor face off in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
âAldo all day long. Iâm also going for Weidman and Jacare (Sousa) at UFC 194â.
Northcutt disagreed with Alvey and revealed he thinks McGregorâs different style could swing it for the Irishman.
âI never like to say names but McGregor has a different style. Heâs appealing and heâs good for the sport. Iâm just excited to see who wins, itâs hard one to decideâ
Following this revelation that Alvey and Northcutt had their allegiances in opposing corners, Alvey decided to pose his fellow UFC colleague a small light-hearted wager:
âIâll make you a bet Sage. If Aldo wins, you have to take a picture with your hair flat. If McGregor wins, I have to take a picture with my hair all spiked up (Sage Northcutt style)â
Northcutt is known for his spiky hairstyle.
The stakes might not be as high as some of the high-rolling bets taken online and in the Las Vegas casinos next weekend, but McGregor can take even more confidence in the knowledge that yet another big name in the sport is backing him.
Northcutt himself will be in action next week on December 10th at UFC Fight Night 80 where he will be taking on Cody Pfister. Northcutt will hope to continue his form from UFC 192 where in his debut bout he recorded a stunning 57-second TKO victory over Francisco Trevino.
With McGregor and Northcutt two of the UFCâs youngest stars itâs entirely possible we will see both holding UFC Gold in the near future.
