Albuquerque names November “Holly Holm Month” after native's win over Ronda Rousey in UFC193

Three days after the historic upset at UFC193, the Albuquerque City Council has proclaimed November as "Holly Holm Month," MMA Fighting have confirmed.

Holm knocked out the previously undefeated Rousey just one minute into round two in Melbourne, Australia to become the new bantamweight champion. The world may have been shocked by the outcome, but no one could deny that Holm was the better fighter on the night. She landed punch after punch and kick after kick, repeatedly striking Rousey’s face, drawing blood from her opponent’s mouth and nose.

A brutal but perfectly executed headkick saw Rousey fall to the canvas defeated and referee Herb Dean had no choice but to declare Holm the victor in what was one of the biggest upsets in UFC history. The plaudits and praise have been coming quick and fast for the 34 year old former boxing champion but her hometown may have just taken the biscuit.

The certificate also said that a parade and a victory ceremony will be held in her honour.

"We ask our community to come together as we celebrate our very own hometown hero, Holly Holm, the UFC Bantamweight Champion, upon her return from Australia, as we honor her with a parade and victory ceremony," the certificate reads.
