Jon Jones: “In my opinion Holly Holm is already the greatest of all time of women combat sports.”

On Saturday night, the sporting world witnessed a huge upset when undefeated champion and UFC great, Ronda Rousey was not only beaten, but outclassed by challenger Holly Holm.

Jon Jones: “In my opinion Holly Holm is already the greatest of all time of women combat sports.”

Holm pummelled Rousey repeatedly in the first round, with her standing game and quick hands proving impossible for the former champ to deal with. The second round began the same as the first, with Holm on the front foot battering Rousey as the world watched, stunned.

A round-house kick to the jaw and Rousey went down. It was all over and Holm was the new UFC undefeated bantamweight champion. The world rushed to congratulate the new champion, who also holds a World boxing title, the first person ever to boast both a boxing and UFC title.

Her own UFC stable-mate and successful fighter Jon Jones spoke of her in glowing terms in a post on Instagram after the fight:

“In my opinion Holly Holm is already the goat [greatest of all time] of women combat sports.

"She was considered the greatest female boxer to ever compete in that sport and now she has defeated the greatest female mixed martial arts fighter to date.

“Her accolades are absolutely unheard of but that’s not what makes me such a fan of Holly. It’s the way she carries herself outside of the bright lights and the arenas.”

Jones said that Holm’s commitment to her fans make her a standout representative for the sport, even if it is time consuming for herself.

“She is the long time pride of Albuquerque, New Mexico not only because the way she competes, but the way she treats each and every individual that has the opportunity of meeting her. This actually can be a problem at times, a simple trip for a gallon of milk to the grocery store could take her an easy 45 minutes and she doesn’t even mind.”

“She is a role model that you would love to have your daughters look up to. I have so much I can learn from her. I’m so honored to be able to call her a teammate and most importantly a friend.

“Congratulations again Champ and keep kicking ass at life.”
