Minor Bound sizzles to shed maiden status

The track was really flying at Curraheen on Saturday, with numerous very fast times recorded. Chief amongst those was the career-best effort of the Niall Dunne-trained Minor Bound, who shed his maiden status in style, in the first round of the Odds On Dog Food A3 Tri-Distance.

Market leader Outsider led early but Minor Bound tracked him around before asserting down the back. Pulling away in emphatic fashion, he put nine lengths between himself and Rappa Jazzer, in a brilliant 28.21.

The first heat went to Rosetown Beauty, from the in-form kennel of Kieran Lynch. Owned by Christopher McCarthy and Mark Cahalane, she led up and, with stamina as a strong suit, pulled away to score by four lengths, from Shaded Sky, in 28.65.

Starcash Annie was another to post a career-best effort when taking the third heat for Timothy Field, Cork.

Off a sizzling 3.26 sectional she was some six clear to the turn. Reserve Knockraha Jet produced a whirlwind finish, but failed, by a head, to catch the 28.32 winner.

In the second round of the Greyhound and Pet World A1 525 Droopys Camden came from off the pace to take the first heat for trainer Johnny Linehan and the Blarney Ten Syndicate, Faggott Hill. The three leaders tangled at third turn, leaving the strong-running Droopys Camden to get up late to beat Orlando Dazl by three parts of a length, in 28.98.

Rastafari Vic posted a very smart effort to take the second heat for Jackie Roche, Waterford. In front early, the 4-6 favourite stayed on well to beat Charlesfield Tom by four lengths, in 28.22.

Dower Bud got up late to record a 28.51 victory in the third heat, for trainer Denis Fitzgerald and owner Tadhg O’Loughlin.

Burgess Rumble led Knockboy Kathy for much of the trip, but Dower Bud pounced late to prevail in a three-way photo.

Glenanore Ace overcame a tough draw to take the last heat for Tom and Breda O’Neill, Castletownroche in 28.46.
