Taylor has been added to the Lee versus Billy Joe Saunders undercard at Thomond Park. Lee defends his WBO World middleweight title versus the British 2008 Olympian at the home of Munster rugby on September 19.
Taylor, who is due back in Ireland from holidays in the USA on Monday, will box over four, two minute rounds in Lee’s hometown to International Boxing Association (AIBA) rules in front of an AIBA approved referee and judges.
The Olympic champion, an AIBA Ambassador for women’s boxing, has been given a list of potential opponents to consider.
It is understood that September 19 card will also include an AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) fight. Joe Ward and David Oliver Joyce are Ireland’s APB boxers.
Taylor boxed and beat Allana Murphy in the first officially Irish Amateur Boxing Association sanctioned women’s bout at the National Stadium in Dublin in 2001. Lee was included on the same card.
Five-time world champion Taylor will be aiming to become – India’s Mary Kom has also won five – the first boxer to win six successive world titles in Kazakhstan in February.
If the Bray lightweight does win an historic sixth gold in Kazakhstan she’ll book a ticket for Rio 2016 as the Central Asian tournament is the first Olympic qualifier for women.
Pete Taylor added:
“Katie is very much looking forward to appearing at Thomond Park. It will obviously be a fantastic occasion for everyone and a massive night for Irish boxing.”
