Switch to inside should do the trick for Rio

Quite a difficult card for punters tonight at Curraheen Park, where the feature is the final of the Boylesports Greyhound Derby Trial Stake, supported by the Laurels Restaurant A3 525 decider.

Switch to inside should do the trick for Rio

The nap goes to Carrigoon Rio, who looks drawn to take race three for Noel Casey.

Lightly raced but talented, he was having his first run back after a long absence when finishing fourth behind the improving Derrinasafa Spot here a couple of weeks ago.

He didn’t have the best of the draw then, but the switch to the inside should aid his cause, and he has the early dash to lead around.

With that run likely to have brought him forward, he can bounce out and make all the running. The strong-running Mucky Diva enjoys a drop in grade, and rates the most obvious danger.

Mimis Ace is a token selection in a very tight final to the Derby Trial Stake. Touched off by Butterbridge Ace last time, he remains capable of better, and has a reasonable draw, provided he doesn’t fluff his lines early.

He certainly has the pace to come out on top, and is just preferred to Boherash Ozzie.

Vedfield Coolio hasn’t enjoyed much luck recently, but he can take the Laurels Restaurant A3 final. A dog with terrific early dash, he has been missing the kick recently and finding trouble.

However, he looks quite well drawn this time and if he can time his break right, he can lead all the way. Boherash Messiah is better than he showed last time, and deserves plenty of respect.

Ballyboy Flash is without a win in four outings and is returning after an absence to contest the opening race, but there was enough promise in her early forays to suggest she could more than manage at this A3 level.

The Michael O’Callaghan-trained October pup hasn’t been seen in action since April 24, but posted a smart 17.87 trial here last month, and has been given plenty of time since that spin.

She looks potentially progressive and a chance can be taken she’s ready to do herself justice tonight.
