The half-brother to former Laurels third Nellies Flyer looked to have a potentially tricky draw, but showed smashing early pace to lead around, and then quickly moved clear of his field. Back in the field, odds-on favourite Ardrahan Zindi, who was in trouble at the first turn, caught the eye making progress down the back.

She had plenty to do to mount a challenge, but produced a terrific run to make a race of it. However, Burgess Tadhg was in top form and, in a thrilling finish, had three parts of a length to spare, in 28.23.

The other final on the card was the Fundraising @ Curraheen Park A4 525, and Getting Animated (Cashen Legend – Mannix Savings) produced a really determined display to land the spoils for James Carroll, Charleville. The lightly raced sort, who was so unlucky in the semi-finals, turned third behind Mums Misty and Archaton Sophie, before challenging off the last bend. With stamina as a strong suit, he quickened up to lead late for a length victory over Archaton Sophie, in 28.92.

Boherash Ozzie (Godsend – Boherash Kylie) produced a career-best effort in taking the first semi-final of the Boylesports.com Derby Trial Stake. Trained by Michael Hanrahan for Barry Kiely, Glanworth, he turned second behind favourite Madra Deas, who had four lengths to spare at halfway. However, the winner showed pace to challenge between the final bends, and ran on well to win by a length and a half, in a very smart 29.67.

Butterbridge Ace (Ace Hi Rumble – Watch Out Jess) produced a game effort to take the second semi-final for trainer Kieran Lynch and owner Diarmuid Lynch. Seeking a four-timer, he was first to show and held the advantage until favourite Mimis Ace put his nose in front racing the final bend. There was nothing between the two thereafter, but Butterbridge Ace shaded the verdict, by a short head, in 29.89.

There was a really smart performance to start proceedings, as Chinook Rumble (Ace Hi Rumble – Dysert Ciara) raced away with an A3 550. Owned by Joe and Frank Long, Bandon, he took over between the opening bends, and stretched clear for a facile victory, in 29.61.

Pennys Tyrell (Premier Fantasy – Pennys Mrsturpin) showed a likeable attitude in taking race two for Carl Humphreys, Cork. The bitch took over approaching the first bend and, after being passed on the turn for home, battled back to record victory in 18.03.

Ardrath Star (Taylors Sky – Bellers Beauty) ran out a comfortable winner of the first semi-final of the Laurels Restaurant A3 525 for trainer John Kiely and owner Richenda Kelly, Youghal.

The lightly raced pup ran the opening bend very bravely to avoid trouble and, after going clear down the back, had two lengths to spare over Joyous, in 28.80.

Keith Freer’s Farranrory Simba (Makeshift – Farranrory Fay) took the second heat in determined fashion. In a race laden with early dash, he was able to turn close, before asserting down the back. Edencurra Mike stayed on nicely, but came up a length shy of the 28.94 winner.

Outsider (Outside The Box – Any Moment), owned by Ted McCarthy, Donoughmore, brought his tally to nine wins from 24 outings, with victory in the Happy Birthday Bart Leahy 525.

The 4-1 chance swept around the outside to lead out of the second bend, and denied well-backed favourite Lads Lex by two and a half lengths, in 28.74. The strong-staying Showmethemoney (Droopys Scolari – Move On Sunshine) left all previous Curraheen form behind with a trap-to-line success in race seven. Owned by Edmond Barrett, Kilmallock, he broke better than ever, led up, and always looked in control as he raced to a three-and-a-half-length victory from Whiteys Scarface, in 28.35.
