Trinity win thrilling senior eights

The highlight was the men’s senior eights, with Trinity making up for their second-place finish last year, edging a fierce battle with the UCD/OCBC composite crew.

The first title of the day went to Audrey Dormer, Carlow RC, who won the women’s masters single-sculls. Bann RC (Derry) won the women’s junior 18 pairs, despite the challenge of Portora.

Justin Ryan, Skibbereen RC, claimed the men’s lightweight single-sculls title, finishing just ahead of Fintan McCarthy. NUIG put down an early marker in the women’s intermediate fours, dominating in the all-Ireland.

Commercial RC had gained a gap of a length by the first 500m mark in the men’s intermediate pairs to beat Skibbereen.

Siobhan McCrohan, Tribesmen RC, claimed her second title of the weekend in the women’s lightweight single-sculls, ahead of Sarah Dolan, of Commercial. Shandon BC had a very convincing win in the men’s junior double sculls, while the men’s club fours title went to Queens University Belfast, in a thrilling battle with UCD.
