Bad timing as Mark English only third

Mark English has vowed not to allow his disappointing 800m performance at last night’s Cork City Sports meet affect his European U23 championships gold medal bid.

Bad timing as Mark English only third

English flies out to Tallinn this morning ahead of the 800m heats on Friday, his final preparations not exactly keeping to script after the 22-year old placed third in a time of 1.47.89.

The double European medallist moved consummately into the lead on the second lap and held the inside lane at the top of the final bend. Pressure was exerted by American Michael Rutt coming down the home stretch and English was unable to summon a response, passed also by Andreas Bubé. Rutt breast the tape in 1.47.57, with Denmark’s Bubé second in 1.47.73.
