Scott Gibson tops Owens’ best to rewrite the record books

The heavy rain that fell throughout the South Munster Schools T&F at the CIT didn’t pose a problem for Bandon athlete Scott Gibson as he erased one of the most impressive records from the books.

The Bandon Grammar School pupil clocked 49.45 in winning the senior 400m, improving the previous best of 49.92 which has stood to Cathal Owens since 2009.

It was also faster than the hand-timed 49.9 shared equally between Paul O’Regan and Ian Hamilton, the latter performance going all the way back to 1964.
