Desmond sisters shine for Bandon

Hockey: Bandon’s Irish Junior Cup love affair continues after the Desmond sisters gave them a hard-fought 2-0 quarter-final win over local rivals Cork Church of Ireland.

John Dennis’ side — semi-finalists last season — were always going to have an edge in terms of experience on a C of I side featuring just one player not still in school, but it was two of Bandon’s own younger members that did the damage.

Katie Desmond intercepted a first-half hit-out near the C of I circle and made no mistake to blast the ball home for the opener, before her sister Rachel completed a three-pass short corner move to make sure in the second period.
