Lynch and Allen blow rivals away in Bordeaux

Allen was in the fast lane when winning a speed class on Wild Thing L, the 19-year-old Wexford native again proving he is more than capable of holding his own against the sport’s superstars.

Yesterday’s 1.40mtr opener saw him achieve victory with consummate ease, the German-based rider and the 12-year-old bay mare flashing over the finish line an amazing three seconds faster than the next best, Belgium’s Constant Van Paesschen on Diamanthina van’t Ruytershof, with Cork’s Billy Twomey (Royale du Rouet) third .

Allen goes into tonight’s penultimate World Cup contest on the Western European League having already qualified for April’s World Cup final in Las Vegas, while his consistency boosted him to 14th this week in the Longines World Rankings.

Lynch showed he too has what it takes when fastest in last night’s 1.50mtr speed class, to earn over €20,000. Germany’s Daniel Deusser (Espyrante) looked the part when taking the lead early on in 56.22 seconds, but Lynch and Abbervail van het Dingeshof found something extra, stopping the clock in 55.73secs when seventh last of 39 starters.
