The Irish Track teams endured a difficult opening day at the UCI Track World Cup in London yesterday.

The women’s team of Caroline Ryan, Lydia, Josie Knight and Lauren Creamer were 12th, clocking a time of 4.39.813 for the 4k test.

Favourites Great Britain went fastest in a blistering 4.23.406, edging out great rivals Australia (4.23.498) and Canada (4.28.208).

The Irish men’s team of Cormac Clarke, Thomas Fallon, Javan Nulty and Sean Downey finished 22nd in 4:17.358.

Australia were quickest in 4.00.577 with Great Britain two seconds behind.

In the women’s 10k (40laps) Scratch Race final, Ireland’s Lydia Boylan was 13th, with the gold medal going to Jannie Milena Salcedo of Colombia.
