Olympic gold medal winner Katie Taylor admits more should have been done to promote Irish boxing following the team’s heroics at the London Games in 2012.

Taylor, John Joe Nevin, Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlan all won Olympic medals two years ago and the Bray woman feels a glorious opportunity was missed in the aftermath of those achievements.

She said: “It does annoy me I suppose [the lack of marketing], looking back on things now they could have made a load of money for the boxers after they came back when these amateur boxers would have been household names. I don’t think amateur boxing gets enough recognition, it’s our most successful sport but yet it’s the least publicised sport.
