Paul Robinson had to settle for 10th place in the 1,000m in 2:18.46 at the Diamond League finale in Brussels last night – less than a second outside David Matthews’ Irish record of 2:17.58.

“I knew if I was going to have a crack at the record I was going to have to push with 300m to go but it didn’t work out,” said Robinson.

Robinson will race over 1500m in Rieti, Italy tomorrow.
