Sorensen’s winning start in Prague

Paired against the Czech Republic’s Jan Hernych, the Irish No 2’s future participation in the outdoor claycourt tournament looked very much in the balance when the 35-year-old home player battled back to level at one set all.

But in the decider, No 8 seed Sorensen re-asserted his authority against an opponent, who took a set off the current world No 23, Spain’s Roberto Bautista-Agut, in the second round of this year’s Wimbledon Championships, prevailing on a 6-2 4-6 6-1 margin after two hours and six minutes.
