Taylor in fine fettle for Euros

Olympic champion Katie Taylor completed a hat-trick of wins in Munster at the weekend ahead of her upcoming European title defence in Romania.

Following wins over Croatia’s Marija Petric and Switzerland’s Anais Kistler in Cork Thursday and Friday night, the Bray lightweight beat Kristin Carlson of the USA at the Dungarvan Sports Centre on Saturday night.

Carlson, a school teacher in Chicago, took a standing count off a flashing combination in the third round before Taylor claimed an unanimous decision.

Taylor will now take part in a training camp with the Irish elite side in Halle, Germany later this month.

She’ll then head to Bucharest for the European championships on May 31. Maureeca Lambert of the USA beat Irish Elite champion Lynn McEnery on a unanimous decision on Saturday’s Dungarvan BC hosted show.
