Magnificent Titans sink Neptune

Men’s Division 1 National Cup winners Titans produced the shock of the decade when they defeated Premier outfit Bord Gáis Neptune in the quarter-final of the Champions Trophy.

The Galway side surged into an early 16-point lead and although Neptune fought back to lead by the minimum entering the final quarter, Titans found the crucial baskets to run out 86-82 winners.

Galway side Maree who won the men’s Division 1 league in style but were given a lesson of life in the fast lane when they were defeated by DCU Saints 83-63 in the second quarter-final of the Champions Trophy quarter-final.

Meanwhile UL Huskies remain on track to win their fourth Women’s Premier League in a row after a hard earned 63-50 win over Killester. “Killester came to play and we had to show all our battling qualities particularly down the stretch before we saw them off,” said UL coach James Weldon said.

Team Montenotte will stand between UL Huskies and a place in history as they won the second semi-final 65-54 against DCU Mercy in Dublin yesterday. The Cork side dominated for long periods and with Claire Rockall finishing with a game high 23 points they ran out deserving winners.
