Ireland’s Caroline Ryan finished sixth in qualifying for the Individual Pursuit final at the UCI Track World Championships in Cali, Colombia, last night.

The Kildare woman, ranked number one in the world in the discipline, was beaten in a head-to-head dual by American Sarah Hammer — who easily set the fastest qualifying time in 3:29.711 — by a whopping eight seconds.

Though Ryan came into these Championships with realistic hopes of a medal in the discipline, she had no answer to Hammer’s strength over the three-kilometre test and clocked 3:37.847.
