Fionnuala Britton had to settle for fourth at the Antrim IAAF International Cross Country meeting in Greenmount on Saturday, succumbing in the closing stages having led on the last lap of the 5.6km course.

Britton was denied a hat-trick of victories at the meeting by three top class Ethiopians who now compete for different countries.

Bahrain’s Mimi Belete finished one second ahead of her in-form compatriot Maryam Jamal, the 2007 and 2009 world 1500m champion and London 2012 bronze medallist, to win over the testing course with a 18:07 clocking.
