Team Garveys keep home fans happy

An early basket from Declan Culhane and one from the charity line plus one from inside the paint from Andrew Fitzgerald saw Team Garveys get the better start. However Tomas Mittkus with a three followed by a bucket from Paulius Peldius soon tied the scores in this see- saw encounter at 5-5.
Both Mittkus and Peldius kept Titans in the game as they scored all but four points of their sides first-half total of 17 points, but Andrew Fitzgerald was hurting Titans inside and he scored eight first-half points with Dan Griffin and Declan Wall also doing invaluable work, as Team Garveys led 19-17 at the half time break.
Team Garveys maintained the early second half pressure with baskets from Declan Wall, Declan Wall and Andrew Fitzgerald to move 25-19 but it was Titans who got back in the game with just over 5.08 left on the clock, with the sides tied on 25-25.
It was 29-29 with 3.00 left when Seamus Brosnan drained a three but Mittkus responded with another three for Titans and it went down to the final shot three seconds from time when Andrew Fitzgerald drained the winner for Team Garveys with a jumper from 12 feet.
Meanwhile the two Kerry National League Division 1 sides met in the Ladies Final and it proved a ferociously intense contest as the home side Team Tom McCarthy’s faced off against Tralee Imperials.
Scoring was at a premium and poor shot selection ensured a low scoring affair but Imperials won 17-13, thanks to rebounding of Sinead Mackessy, and the scoring exploits of Kerry senior footballer Emma Sherwood.
The tempo of the game increased in the second half as Tralee Imperials got on top with Sinead Mackessy controlled the boards at both ends and with Emma Sherwood with three buckets, Lynn Jones with another, suddenly Imperials had slipped 17-8 clear.
Danielle McLoughlin and Lorraine Scanlon closed the gap to four with less than a minute remaining but the scores just would not come.
Veteran John Teahan proved the match winner in the Men’s Division 1 Final as St Marys Oldies beat Currow Cordal 21-20.
