Ryan seals Junior title

Fintan Ryan took the biggest win of his career to date when he claimed the National Junior road race title in Omagh yesterday.

The Nicolas Roche Performance Team rider got the verdict after a photo finish from a group containing himself, Dylan O’Brien (O’Leary’s Stone Kanturk), Stephen Shanahan (Limerick CC), team-mate Danny Bruton, David Fitzsimons (Kilcullen CC) and a small group of others.

Shanahan won the silver medal and O'Brien took bronze.

In the Time Trial (40 kilometers) on Saturday, Eddie Dunbar (O’Leary’s Stone Kanturk) produced a phenomenal performance to win by a whopping 25 seconds from Mark Downey (Nicolas Roche Performance Team) and Sean Hahessy (Iverk Produce Carrick Wheelers).

Greg Swinand, Usher IRC, took the Veterans’ title from John Heverin (Clann Eireann) and Chris Troy Castlebar CC).

Meanwhile, John McCarthy won the Wexford Wheelers 2-Day yesterday.

The Aquablue rider made his bid for glory when he broke away in the final 40 kilometres of yesterday’s third stage with Brian Hart (Limerick CC) and Martin Gill (Wexford Wheelers) and though Hart took the stage, McCarthy did enough to secure the yellow jersey.
