Champ Taylor eager to win more European gold
Taylor, Ceire Smith and Sinead Kavanagh arrived in Keszthely on Friday ahead of today’s opening bell for the Women’s EU Women’s Senior, Youth and Junior Championships.
The rest of Ireland’s 24-strong Irish squad, which includes European junior champion Amy Broadhurst, flew into Hungary yesterday. Taylor, the Olympic, world and European champion, will be aiming for a fifth EU title in-a-row.
Fourteen boxers, including Liverpool southpaw Nastasha Jonas, who Taylor beat at London 2012, have entered in the Bray woman’s lightweight class. Depending on today’s draw (11am Irish time), Taylor could be in action in today’s preliminaries at the Helikon Hotel, where she won her third EU title in 2010.
