Griffin, Cameron victors in Germany

Cork racing ace Matt Griffin and team-mate Duncan Cameron took their AF Corse-run Ferrari 458 GT Italia to a second victory in this season’s International GT Open Championship at the Nurburgring, Germany.

Griffin, Cameron victors in Germany

It was an emotional victory for the pair as their co-worker Pietro Stragliati, who worked for AF Corse for seven years, lost his life on Thursday in a tragic accident in the paddock while working for the Trofeo Maserati.

Griffin was fourth after the opening lap and was subsequently involved in a great battle with the Porsche of Jeroen Bleekemolen. The Cork driver picked the most opportune moment and edged past on the tenth lap. Both the Villorba Ferrari and the V8 Corvette outfits served handicaps of 45 and 30 seconds respectively and Cameron, who had taken over from Griffin, drove one of his best races to take the chequered flag.
