Murphy strikes gold again
The Dún Laoghaire single-hander entered the medal race in third, two points behind Britain’s Alison Young. Also in contention were China’s Lijia Xu and Dutch racer Marit Bouwemester, gold and silver medalists respectively at the London Olympics.
Murphy grabbed the initiative from the off and was one minute clear by the first mark and maintained her advantage to claim first place.
“I got so far ahead, I didn’t have to worry. I had a good week and am happy with my performance,” she said.
