O’Sullivan shoots into lead

Ronnie O'Sullivan leads Barry Hawkins 10-7 after the first day of the World Championship final at the Crucible.

The landslide victory for the Rocket that many predicted certainly hasn’t materialised, with Hawkins making the defending champion sweat for the first time in the tournament.

Four-time winner O'Sullivan, 37, made four century breaks to surpass Stephen Hendry's previous record of 127 at the venue.

But world number 14 Hawkins was not overawed, making four half-centuries and one century of his own.

From 5-3 behind going into the evening, Hawkins drew level at 7-7 and the underdog was looking to have shed the early nerves that affected him.

The 34-year-old world number 14 fired in back-to-back breaks of 83 and 133 to give O’Sullivan plenty to think about in the closing three frames of the session.
