New coach to be revealed soon

Athletics Ireland High Performance director Kevin Ankrom is “excited” about the prospect of hiring a national endurance coach — Ireland’s first full-time athletics coach — whom he hopes to identify next week after the interview process concludes today.

“It’s not going to be easy. We want the best and we have some good candidates,” said Ankrom. “We would hope we can identify the main candidate or candidates next week.”

Ankrom issued a word of warning though. “Just because you identify the person, you still have to talk to the person, negotiate and get a contract signed, which is still a couple of weeks away. We are in the process of narrowing the candidates down.”
