Ó Lionaird breaks mile PB
American Olympians filled the first two places with Lopez Lomong winning in a time of 3:51.21, just ahead of Matt Centrowicz in 3:51.34.
O’Lionaird’s time of 3:52.10 bettered the 3:54.76 he ran 12 months ago. It also ranks him fourth in the Irish All-Time list for the mile after Eamon Coghlan, Marcus O’Sullivan and Ray Flynn.
Stephen Scullion (North Belfast AC) was another to achieve the European 3,000m standard when he finished seventh in the 3,000m at the British Grand Prix in Birmingham on Saturday. (7:58.11) Claire Tarplee (DSD AC) was just outside the standard when she was seventh in the 1,500m at the same meet in a time of 4:15.57. The standard is 4:14.00.
